WB Engineers Completes 240,000-Square-Foot Independent Living Community on L.I.

August 2007

WB Engineers has completed the design of the mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire alarm and protection (MEP/FP) systems for Sterling Glen, a 240,000-square-foot senior independent living community in the village of Roslyn on Long Island, N.Y., according to David Bonifacic, principal of the Manhattan-based firm.

Sterling Glen, located alongside the wetlands of Hempstead Harbor on Nassau County’s north shore, will contain 160 residential units, in addition to a community center, kitchen, living room, library, bar/lounge, media room, fitness center, beauty salon and several dining rooms. The development will also include a public waterfront park and promenade.

“The scale of this complex development, combined with Roslyn’s strict construction laws, required intensive coordination among three architects and a large team of consultants,” says Mr. Bonifacic. “The town has a very strict policy concerning the height of new development, and the design and construction team had to be careful not to exceed the limited space allowed.”

This will be Sterling Glen Communities’ eleventh age-restricted residential project in the Northeast owned and managed by Sterling Glen and Forest City Enterprises Inc.

WB worked in conjunction with Robert A.M. Stern Architects, SLCE Architects, CMMI and general contractor Kijima Corporation.
