WB Engineers | Consultants’ commissioning team worked with The Bank of New York Mellon to determine the feasibility and costs associated with pursuing Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design for Existing Buildings Operations & Maintenance (LEED-EB) certification for two of the bank’s buildings. The bank had invested significant time and money to improve energy performance of both buildings and had earned the ENERGYSTAR label from the Environmental Protection Agency for their conservation measures at both locations. They wanted to understand how their initiatives thus far aligned with the LEED-EB certification criteria and what additional steps would need to be taken to become certified.
At both locations, WB Engineers evaluated the prerequisite and credit requirements for certification; these credits identify specific building attributes, procedures, operating programs and plans to promote the building’s environmental contributions. We met with building management staff to review building data for each credit and to discuss what processes were in place to support the requirements. The data was compared to the required submittal documentation. Additional onsite visits were conducted to speak with operating personnel and to review field conditions of equipment.
Following our detailed analysis, WB provided a report on each building describing how the building could earn LEED credits and the associated costs. We recommended that The Bank of New York Mellon pursue LEED Silver certification for both locations.
