One New York Plaza, New York, NY
The primary objective of this project was to respond to a turbine failure that resulted in the loss of a 6,000 ton steam driven chiller. The engineering design and construction administration services included the construction of a 5,000 ton chilled water plant using electric water cooled, centrifugal chillers, composed of two 2,000 ton and one 1,000 ton machines.
The goal of this project was to reconstruct a 6,000 ton plant which failed from a turbine explosion in August, and to have it on line by April. The design of the chiller plant required coordination with other consultants and contractors to permit a phased installation of the chillers keeping One and Two New York Plaza on line. Due to space constraints WB worked closely with a number of different chiller vendors to develop customized chillers. The expanded chiller plant included the design and installation of an advanced Building Management System which enabled the entire plant to operate at maximum efficiency.
Following the equipment installation, WB conducted commissioning testing of the chiller's pumping system. In both manual operation and automatic modes, our testing ensured that the pumps would cycle on and off so as to maintain the minimum required flows at the chillers and fans.
