Commerzbank - New York, NY

For this remediation project for Commerzbank, the use of a three-dimensional model helped WB to efficiently and effectively solve the problem of "hot spots" in their data center. The hot spots were causing equipment/server failures in both the data center and the communications room. As a temporary solution, Commerzbank had been using auxiliary fans to improve airflow through the space. They needed a long term solution.

WB's first confirmed that the required cooling was available for the space. We determined that the space had 40 tons of cooling - more than ample capacity with full redundancy if one of the units failed.

We then created a model of the airflow in the space, using FLUENT software. The model also showed the exact locations where the cooling problems were the most severe. It also gave us a clear understanding of how to fix the problem.

We created a second three-dimensional model demonstrating how the air would flow throughout the space after the system was modified. Being able to show our client the before and after simulation solidified the client's confidence that our design would resolve their data center cooling problems.
